The BEST Exercise for Climbing Progression
NOT 😂 Want to get better at climbing? Climb.
If you can climb, do it as often as you can, always making sure you are fully recovering between your sessions.
If you can’t climb as often as you’d like, make sure the things you are doing are as similar to climbing as possible; assuming you want to get BETTER AT CLIMBING, not just stronger in a general sense.
There are many people out there that will try to tell you that you can get better at this sport using programming that is extremely similar to body builders or power lifters.
You can’t bench press, deadlift, squat or even finger lift weights off of the ground all day and expect to excel at the fastest rate possible.
There’s a reason why gymnasts aren’t also the best climbers, despite being at physical peak.
There’s also a reason why most of the best climbers in the entire world can’t bench or even deadlift their own body weight. They’re too busy getting really really good at rock climbing…
I am not saying those exercises can’t help you if you discover that you need more strength in a particular muscle group for a specific goal you have or if you have a muscular imbalance that may lead to an injury down the road; but they have diminishing returns after a certain point and are certainly not the most efficient way to spend your time if the goal is improved climbing performance.
Stay focused, don’t lose sight of the truth.
