Transitional readers read at a good pace and at this stage, your students have learned various strategies to figure out most words but continue to need help with understanding more difficult text that they will for sure start seeing.

Your transitional readers are primarily reading around a Level J/K through a Level P, AND these readers are extremely diverse in their needs. Which can vary from one student to the next.

But don’t let that overwhelm you from really digging in and finding out how you can really help these students flourish to become fluent readers! You’ve got this!!!

These readers typically have a larger bank of sight words that they know and have decent decoding skills with short vowels, blends and digraphs. Yet, may still have difficulty decoding words with complex vowel patterns…. and will struggle with difficult multisyllabic words.
