Under-Ice Observations with Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
In the world of Great Lakes research, the start of winter traditionally signals the end of fieldwork for the year. But now, NOAA GLERL and partners will use a Saab Sabertooth autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) beneath the ice cover in Lake Michigan to collect wintertime ecological and water quality data.
NOAA GLERL’s partners on this project include Hibbard Inshore, the Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research (CIGLR), and the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
