AUTUMN APPLE SANGRIA 🍎🍷
The most perfect botanical drink for holiday & harvest gatherings! 🍂
The crisp, dynamic days of autumn slowly give way to the colder, brisk days of early winter, and it’s in these transitional weeks we turn inward and embrace the fellowship of friends and family and the many joyous, albeit busy, holiday gatherings!
A common thread woven throughout many of these festivities is the presence of food and celebratory drinks including seasonally harvested and preserved fruits, herbs, and spices–and for many occasions–wine and spirits! Sangria is one such jubilant menu item that encompasses all of the above, and represents the perfect recipe to elevate any gathering with a nod to the season.
The below recipe is from Herbal Academy’s Botanical Mixed Drinks Recipe Book!
AUTUMN APPLE SANGRIA
🍂 1 bottle (750 mL) fruity red wine (or Sweet Spiced Wine recipe from the Botanical Mixed Drinks Recipe Book)
🍂 8 fl oz (240 mL) apple juice
🍂 4 fl oz (120 mL) cinnamon liqueur
🍂 1 cup fresh red apple, sliced
🍂 1 cup fresh green apple, sliced (here’s where we adapted today’s recipe!**)
🍂 20 fl oz (600 mL) ginger beer (or carbonated water)
** Great ways to personalize sangria are with elderberries and rose hips, cranberries and oranges, and warming spices like cinnamon, clove, and star anise!
TO MAKE:
Combine wine, apple juice, cinnamon liqueur, and fresh apples in a pitcher and stir well. Refrigerate 2 hours or until ready to serve. Top with ginger beer (or carbonated water) just before serving in wine glasses to keep the drink fizzy. For an autumnal garnish, add a slice of apple to each individual glass.
