To induce or not to induce at 39 weeks pregnant? Encouragement from a Midwife | Bishop’s Score

It is so tempting the last few weeks of pregnancy to give in to the idea of an induction. A scheduled birth seems so convenient, doesn’t it! But today, I’m here to encourage you, from a midwife’s perspective, why you should wait!

Inducing a healthy, low-risk pregnancy goes in the complete opposite direction of supporting NORMAL BIRTH physiology. Medications make labor painful and often time begins a cascade of interventions, known as the snowball effect, that leads to an unplanned and possibly avoidable c-section. You may be miserable now, but the recovery for 2-6 weeks with a newborn will be miserable later! I want to encourage you to lead yourself from the temptation.
