Calcium (Ca): Basic Properties and Interesting Facts

Calcium is a chemical element of the second group and the fourth period, with an atomic number of 20 and an atomic mass of 40.078.
Calcium is called differently in different languages, but in Latin its name is Calcium.
Calcium has many isotopes (from Ca-34 to Ca-58). Many of them are artificial radioactive with a half-life of less than 1 second.
Calcium has 5 stable isotopes, the most abundant being Ca-40 (96% in abundance).

After the Sun disappears, 0.05% of its initial weight will be 9.9 * 10^23 tons of calcium, which is approximately the mass of the planet Saturn.
In the human body, calcium regulates the following processes:
cell membrane permeability;
neuromuscular irritability;
heartbeat;
blood clotting;
blood cholesterol and fat levels;
metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, proteins and iron;
mechanism of apoptosis.
The main sources of plant origin are basil, thyme, sage, mint, cinnamon, parsley, spinach, broccoli, nettle, seaweed, sweet almonds, dried figs, Brazil nuts, dandelions, pistachios, red beans, dates, walnuts.
The richest foods in calcium are: Parmesan cheese, Swiss cheese, sardines in oil, egg yolk, yogurt, brie cheese, mackerel, skim milk.
Calcium deficiency in children manifests itself under the guise of rickets, and in adults under the guise of osteoporosis and osteomalacia.
Excess calcium in the body (hypercalcemia) occurs in such situations: increased leaching of calcium from bone tissue, decreased absorption of calcium by bone tissue, decreased excretion of calcium in the kidneys, increased absorption of calcium in the intestine.
Excess calcium affects many systems and organs.
Calcium minerals are used in various fields:
gypsum - in the construction business, in medicine, in the chemical industry, in the pulp and paper industry;
calcite - in construction and in the chemical industry;
apatite - in the production of phosphorus, phosphoric acid and phosphoric fertilizers;
scheelite - for obtaining tungsten;
commandlite - to obtain molybdenum.
In the human body, 1% of all calcium is found in the blood, and 99% in bones and teeth.
Vitamin K1, silicon, vitamin D3, magnesium contributes to the absorption of calcium in the body.
The release of calcium from the body is facilitated by sodium, magnesium, phosphorus and caffeine.
