If Money Wasn’t a Factor… This Is How I’d Insulate My House!
If Money Wasn’t a Factor… This Is How I’d Insulate My House!
If you were building a house and money wasn’t the concern, how would you insulate it?
The first question is always where are you building. Climate matters more than anything. What works in one region doesn’t always work in another.
In our climate, the best-performing setup we’ve found is:
1 inch of closed-cell foam in exterior walls
Cellulose layered over the top
10 inches of open-cell foam on the underside of the roof deck
That combination creates an extremely efficient thermal envelope while keeping the structure able to dry properly. It may be overkill for some, but peace of mind matters and long-term performance matters more.
North Texas? Very similar approach. Especially if your HVAC equipment is in the attic, open-cell foam on the roof deck and walls makes a huge difference in comfort, efficiency, and equipment longevity.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer but there is a right way to do it for your climate.
If you’re building, remodeling, or just want to understand how insulation really works, this is where those decisions start.
