Ferry to Algeciras from Ceuta
I was worn out from the day trip in Morocco. At this point, Eric and I had been up since 7am and it was nearly 10:30pm. After that, we still had to drive from Algeciras to Cádiz, which had us arriving at around 2am. In fact, we didn't get settled into the hotel room until around 3am that night.
We arrived back at the Spanish border around 7pm Spanish time since Morocco's time zone is one hour behind Spain's. There was a bus to take people back from the border area to the city, a distance of about 5 km (3 miles). We decided to get off the bus after a short distance because we needed to stop by an ATM. Unfortunately, the ATM was out of service, leaving us without cash or transportation back to the city center. We were also unable to find any newspaper kiosk or store to purchase something to drink. At that point, we hadn't had anything to drink yet had been walking around the streets of Tétouan all day.
By the time we got back to the ferry terminal, the place was almost deserted. We discovered that while we did purchase a return fare, the return fare was only a receipt to obtain a return ticket, not a valid boarding pass, since the return fare is good for six months after the purchase date. We ran back downstairs to the ticket counter, to see a screen that said "Next Ferry 08:30". Now, we thought this was 24-hour time, and, since it was nearly 9pm, we thought we'd be spending the night in Ceuta. Mind you we had nothing but our camera equipment since all of our clothes and other luggage were sitting in Eric's car back in Algeciras. We had also prepaid for a hotel room in Cádiz and were going to be out the money unless we got on the ferry. Fortunately, the ferry that we wanted to catch was delayed. I think we were the only two people in the terminal that were happy that the ferry was running late that night!
Even after my words in the video, I may yet return to Ceuta and Tétouan. Next time we'll be better prepared.
