Traditional Building – Hands on Brick

The New Forest has a wide range of historic buildings which are of local, vernacular or cultural interest and which are intrinsic to its special character. Repairs and alterations to these buildings often require specialist understanding, method and materials to ensure their special character is not lost.

We are keen to support those who have an interest in historic local interest buildings within the National Park to develop their understanding and skills in maintaining, restoring and making sympathetic alterations to these historic buildings, using traditional methods which maintain the integrity of the building.

Through the Heritage Lottery Funded Landscape Partnership Scheme Our Past, Our Future we are conserving and enhancing the historic built environment of the National Park, by raising awareness, developing specialist building skills, encouraging sensitive management and promoting availability and access to these skills.

We have delivered a training programme for agents, builders and landowners about the importance of traditional buildings to the area's character and equip them with skills in specialist repair techniques.

Here you can watch one of four recordings taken from a series of talks by local historic buildings expert Kevin Stubbs.
