Have you ever thought of how freedom varies in different countries? What's considered free for some is not for others.
Your definition of freedom will play a huge role in where you decide to live.
We will talk about types of freedom that exist in the world, and where you can find those types of freedom.

Many will say that the USA is the freest country in the world. Did you know that the American Revolution happened because of taxes? And today it is quite the opposite. More and more Americans are leaving their country and giving up their citizenship in order to avoid taxes, which are increasing.

My friend and client who comes from Europe, but lives in Dubai gave me a very good perspective on what he considers to be freedom.
He says that in Dubai they don't have the freedom to protest, but he doesn't care about that freedom as he never used it in his home country. The freedom that he cares about is the freedom of not having to report your finances. In his case, UAE is one of the freest countries in the world, because you don't have to do any reporting and paying taxes. Quite the opposite from his home country.

What about the freedom of speech? America is one of the few countries in the world where your freedom of speech is protected. At the same time, they have crazy cancel culture, that will simply erase you if you say something that doesn't fit the common narrative. Do you still have freedom of speech when this is the case?

Another freedom that America offers and most other countries don't is the freedom to bear arms. If you care about your guns, you better stay in the US. At the same time, this freedom is making the US the most dangerous developed country in the world.

The US also has a crazy suing culture, and they will have regulations and labels to prevent people from being stupid and hurting themselves because it could result in a massive lawsuit. If you're in places like Thailand or Mexico these things don't happen nearly as much. You need to take the responsibility for your actions, so you won't see so many rules at every single corner.

Then there are places that will protect your privacy. Switzerland and Iceland have laws that will protect your privacy.
On the other hand, it can go in the opposite extreme, like when the EU brought GDPR which didn't really make you any safer but made life much harder.

Another freedom that might matter to you might be the freedom from corruption. Corruption is still a huge problem in many countries around the world. At the same time, some people actually enjoy living in such an environment, where they can circumvent rules and use a shortcut to get things done.

The next freedom that might matter to you is the freedom of religion. In some places, you are not allowed to express your religious beliefs.

Finally, important rights are human's rights and this especially matters if you are a member of the LGBT community or if you are a woman.
Being gay is still illegal in many countries around the world, so if you belong to this group of people clearly you will not want to go to such countries no matter how good their taxes are.

Similar applies if you are a woman. In many countries around the world, you will not be protected by law if something happens to you, and you will face discrimination (or even worse) at every corner. Do you want to be in such places? Absolutely no!

However, don't make any assumptions before you go somewhere. Even we at Offshore Citizen had some biases and prejudice about some places before we actually visited them. However, when we actually spent some time in those places our perspective changed drastically.
Who are we and what do we do?

We are Offshore Citizen team. We help people become global: get a second passport, set up a second residency, pay less taxes, do banking abroad, etc.

We have lots of interesting articles on different topics, we have relevant information up to date.
