Résumé:
Une mauvaise interprétation des informations sensorielles par le cerveau peut causer des douleurs difficiles à comprendre et à traiter. La réalité virtuelle est un outil permettant de « tromper » le cerveau pour réduire ces douleurs.

Summary:
Misinterpretation of sensory information by the brain can cause pain that seems difficult to understand and treat. Virtual reality is a tool allowing us to "trick" the brain to alleviate this type of pain.

Biographie:
Catherine Mercier détient un B.Sc. en ergothérapie et un Ph.D. en sciences biomédicales de l’Université de Montréal. Elle a complété un post-doctorat à l’Institut des sciences cognitives à Lyon, France. Elle est professeure titulaire au Département de réadaptation de l’Université Laval ainsi que Directrice scientifique du Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en réadaptation et intégration sociale (CIRRIS). Elle est également titulaire de la Chaire de recherche en paralysie cérébrale de l’Université Laval.

Biography:
Catherine Mercier holds a B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Montreal. She completed a post-doctorate at the Institute of Cognitive Sciences in Lyon, France. She is a professor in the Department of Rehabilitation at University of Laval and Scientific Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation and Social Integration (CIRRIS). She holds also the Research Chair in Cerebral Palsy at University of Laval.
