Monk who spent a lifetime to build a cathedral#cathedral#church#architecture#fyp

Don Justo Gallego Martínez spent most of his life building a cathedral almost entirely on his own in Mejorada del Campo. Born in 1925, he once lived as a monk, but had to leave the monastery after falling ill. After recovering, he made a personal vow to dedicate his life to faith in a different way. With no formal training in architecture or engineering, he began constructing a cathedral on family land in 1961, using recycled materials like bricks, barrels, and scrap metal.

Over decades, the structure grew into a vast, unconventional building with domes, towers, and courtyards. Known as the Justo Cathedral, it became a symbol of patience and personal devotion rather than official religious authority. The Catholic Church never formally recognized it as a cathedral, yet visitors from around the world came to see the work of a single man driven by belief and determination.
