Water inspires Iris van Herpen couture show
(3 Jul 2017) WATER INSPIRES IRIS VAN HERPEN COUTURE SHOW
Iris van Herpen created a peaceful, almost womblike atmosphere at Cirque d'Hiver for her Autumn/Winter 2017 Couture show in Paris, Monday (3 JULY 2017).
Models walked the runway to the sound of a live performance by Between Music, who played their instruments while submerged in five gigantic water tanks, only raising their heads above water to take a breath.
The Dutch designer said she shares the Danish group's fascination with water.
"Water has been an inspiration for me for many years. So, for me it was also a nice celebration to go even deeper into this materiality," she said.
"If you look at water more profoundly, like these musicians do, you'll find out a lot of qualities about it and that's what I've been trying to reflect in the collection."
The designer showed a set of eighteen dresses, suggesting waves, bubbles, and reflections, the last of which was a feather-light metal lace, with floral patterns floating around the model's body.
"I really try to capture lightness. If you look at the last dresses, it's almost nothing, there's almost no materiality in it. There's no weight to it as well, but at the same time, you see how all the reflection, how you can see it on water as well. So I really try to capture air and water in one dress," said van Herpen.
