Air Layering Fig Trees & Planting a Lemon tree | PERMACULTURE FOOD FOREST | V.23

Ever wanted to know what it's like to live off grid? Well in this week's video we start with a beautiful off grid cave house tour in the mountains in Spain. This off grid house is powered by solar, and has been very cleverly designed to use skylights to flood the rooms with natural light.

We also get to work on our own land, now that Spring is here. We plant our first tree–a lemon tree–using a method similar to hügelkultur planting and also learn how to air layer a fig tree. Air-layering is a really interesting technique of propagating trees from a mature tree, which bears fruit faster and grows a stronger, healthier tree in a shorter period of time.
This is where the start of our future food forest begins. By following permaculture methods and regenerative agriculture, we intend to improve our dry, poor soil and turn it into the perfect growing environment for all kings of fruit trees and veggies.

In 2020 we bought 12 acres of land in the Baix Ebre region in the South of Catalunya. The land has a small off grid property and a variety of trees including olives, carob and figs. We're building a 2m x 4m cabin, to serve as a temporary home as we renovate the stone almacén into the tiny house of our dreams.
