Creative Writing: The Underlying Mood
http://creativewritingtutorials.blogspot.com/
Show notes: Creative writing. Overall mood. While writing a story it's good to get into character and the more mentally that you are in the scene, the more you can write to draw the reader into the scene. Sometimes there's a conflict between the moods from scene to scene and it becomes a jarring experience for the audience. Look at the mood flow of the story. Put yourself in the mind flow of the readers. Bring them along on a ride. Bring them into happier, bring them into scared. If your writing a horror story you don't want the whole thing to be frightening all the way through or they will get burned out but if you introduce different moods they will enjoy a greater fear factor. Most good horror film are also very funny to give mood movement. If you want a scene to make the greatest impression make earlier scenes calmer in mood and make the big scene very mood inducing. Recently I'm working on a confrontational character but most confrontational during an important scene so I toned down his argumentative nature until the important scene so that I have somewhere to go. If you want the wind to hit the sales, you need the wind to be relaxed. If the wind is already there, you don't have any emotional change and progression. Take your reader from one place to the next mood wise. It can be like music with drastic changes in mood or gradual changes.
Think about the emotional journey that you are taking your reader on. Learn to change overall mood in one scene to improve the impact of later scenes.
Creative writing/ storytelling tutorial for the multimedia age. The writing strategies offered in these tutorials can also be applied to podcasting, film work, storyboarding, cartooning, etc. but they are still very much about writing. Writing is an important skill for most kinds of multimedia artists.
These tutorials are offered for free to help promote my own story telling so please take a moment to see one of my videos at solomation.com. Thanks and I hope your writing goes well!
