Himalayan Salt Block BBQ, Part 2. Grilling NY Strip.

Because Himalayan Salt blocks are all natural and are cut to size from gigantic rocks of salt it is possible to have imperfections. A tiny bubble of moisture or a small air pocket that expands from heat can cause the block to crack, or even explode.

Heat the salt block slowly. In this video we're using a Weber so we leave the block heat ing with one burner, then turn on the second burner and finally the third so we take a good 30 - 40 minutes to get the block over 600 degrees.

The NY Strips finish with a light pink hue after 10-15 minutes grilling on the salt block. I wish I could somehow upload something to "show" the flavor because the difference in taste is astounding. The block makes the steaks stay juicy and infuses the natural flavor with a million-year old sweetness that is nothing like the table salt we think of when we see the word "salt".
