In this question we are given a graph representing speed and time graph for a car, and asked to come up with an estimate for the distance travelled in the first 30 seconds. To do this we need to know that the distance travelled is actually given by the area under the graph, and that we can come up with an estimation for this by drawing a triangle under the curve and calculating the area of the triangle. In the next part of the question we are asked whether our approximation is an under or over estimate. Since the triangle is always under the curve, it is an underestimate.
Finally we are asked whether or not someone's calculation for the acceleration at 60 seconds is correct. The answer is that they are wrong because they should have drawn the tangent to the curve at that point and then worked out its gradient as an estimation of the acceleration.
