On the 2nd/3rd of Feb 2011 cyclone Yasi crossed the coast at Mission Beach.
It caused massive damage large areas of essential habitat for many vulnerable and endangered species including the Mahogany Glider and the Cassowary.
Many cassowaries are now being seen as they emerge from the tangled forest
Five years ago when cyclone Larry hit the same area 30 birds were killed on the roads wihtin the next twelve months.
