★ 4K 🇨🇭Cab Ride Neuchâtel - Buttes, Switzerland [12.2019]

In this video we look at an interesting branch line in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel. We start off in the city of Neuchâtel on the SBB line in the direction of Geneva and branch off towards Pantarlier (France). Note the turn off to La-chaux-de-Fonds from the main line shortly after Neuchâtel: this was the original line intended to go in the direction we're heading. It was abandoned and later used for the line to La-chaux-de-Fonds.

At the station of Travers, we turn off from the SBB network onto a line owned by a private company with the name TRN (Transports Régionaux Neuchâtelois). In Fleurier the line divides yet again, with a 1.6km line heading to St. Sulpice to the right, which closed to passenger traffic in 1973 and was handed over the railway club " Vapeur Val-de-Travers" in 2012 for historic railway traffic.

There are a few interesting and somewhat rare situations on the TRN section of our trip. Stations typically have an entrance and exit signal in Switzerland. None of the train stations after Travers have a distance signal for the exit signal - which makes sense, because most trains stop at all stations anyway. A through train however, would have to slow down enough through stations to prepare for a stop signal.
It's also interesting seeing level crossings in the middle of stations which are unprotected by signals. There is a special signal in the driver's plan indicating that he or she must stop before the crossing. We also see foot crossings at stations, come with speed limits of 20 km/h for trains.
