Billie Eilish Tears Up In Candid Speech About Womanhood

Billie Eilish is feeling emotional. The singer teared up in a candid speech at Variety's Power of Women event in Los Angeles on Nov. 16, where she reflected on the evolution of her female identity and why she felt especially grateful to be included in the magazine's honors this year. Billie also got laughs when joking that her cold medication was the reason she felt especially vulnerable, but she still tugged on the heartstrings when giving her mom a tender and teasing shoutout from the podium. "It's really hard to be a woman out here, guys … I have never felt truly like a woman and I've spent a lot of way of life not feeling like I fit in to being a woman but I think for a couple years because of that insecurity," she said in part. It's been a landmark year for a superstar whose already-impressive career has seen her win multiple Grammys and even an Oscar by just 21. Billie and brother Finneas co-wrote the massive "Barbie" hit "What Was I Made For?" which she also performed live at Variety's event and the movie's 16-year-old co-star Ariana Greenblatt introduced Billie ahead of her remarks, which prompted the musician to share how she was reminded of her own early days of fame.
