Youth STEM Ambassadors - Summer Internships at the Museum of Science, Boston [Sponsored by Vertex]
The Museum of Science’s 𝘚𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮 offers high school students in our community the opportunity to explore STEM careers as they engage authentically in STEM practices. Interns participate in weekly workforce development workshops; collaborate in small groups on a variety of projects; and receive training and mentorship in science education, communication, and research skills from museum staff and other local STEM experts -- revealing a wide variety of potential paths to being a “STEM person”.
In 2022, the Museum’s summer internship cohort included 12 young Bostonians who served as Youth STEM Ambassadors, engaging families from across New England in hands-on science activities -- at the Museum and throughout the Greater Boston community. In this video, we hear directly from youth about the impact of these experiences.
Youth STEM Ambassador Internship experiences were made possible with generous support from Vertex.

Among the world's largest science centers and one of New England’s most attended cultural institutions, the Museum of Science engages 1.4 million visitors a year to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through interactive exhibits and programs. Nearly an additional 2 million people experience the Museum annually through touring exhibitions, Planetarium productions, and PreK – 8 EiE® STEM curricula through the William and Charlotte Bloomberg Science Education Center. Established in 1830, the Museum is home to such iconic exhibits as the Theater of Electricity, the Charles Hayden Planetarium, and the Mugar Omni Theater. The Museum influences formal and informal STEM education through research and national advocacy, as a strong community partner and loyal educator resource, and as a leader in universal design, developing exhibits and programming accessible to all.
