This is the sound of a black hole?? #shorts

Sometimes truth is stranger than science-fiction 🌌

Contrary to popular belief, not all of space is silent. The black hole at the center of the Perseus galaxy cluster contains so much gas around its hundreds or even thousands of galaxies that it allows sound waves to travel.

This sonification – a translation of astronomical data into sound – was released by NASA. The result is almost straight out of an episode of The Twilight Zone. (You can almost imagine Rod Serling’s voice narrating: “Beyond it is another dimension: a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind…”)

Is the sound of the universe what you expected?

Among the world's largest science centers and one of New England’s most attended cultural institutions, the Museum of Science engages 1.4 million visitors a year to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through interactive exhibits and programs. Nearly an additional 2 million people experience the Museum annually through touring exhibitions, Planetarium productions, and PreK – 8 EiE® STEM curricula through the William and Charlotte Bloomberg Science Education Center. Established in 1830, the Museum is home to such iconic exhibits as the Theater of Electricity, the Charles Hayden Planetarium, and the Mugar Omni Theater. The Museum influences formal and informal STEM education through research and national advocacy, as a strong community partner and loyal educator resource, and as a leader in universal design, developing exhibits and programming accessible to all.
