How SiC MOSFET gate drivers make for smaller inverters and EV chargers
Solar inverters and chargers for electric vehicles that substitute silicon-carbide MOSFETs for ordinary IGBTs can be half the size of conventional units. In this short video, TI's Nagarajan Sridhar explains the role SiC gate drivers play in making such size reductions feasible. Among the secrets: capacitive isolation techniques that enable working voltages of 1,5 kV and surge voltages of 12.5 kV.
