Just one day in amazing Thailand, Lampang. Great stop on a road trip going North. We checked out the old house of Leonowens House before doing a horse and carriage ride around the town. Enjoying food at the Riverside restaurant on the river Wang. We saw the elephants known as Chang in Thailand and Buddhist temples before going to the huge and well-known night street market. Artcharee brought clothes while I eat the street food.

If you are a fan of the theatre, you may know the play The King and I. Louis Leonowens mother Anna Leonowens was the lady who came from England to teach King Mongkut’s of Siam (Thailand) wives and children. This is banned in Thailand due to its portrayal of the King and the Thai people. Issues such as slavery the King having multiple wives did not sit too well with Anna, this was actually a book written by an American called Margaret Landon and made into a musical by the American, Oscar Hammerstein II. It is a great musical, but it is banned in Thailand which is a given to those that know Thailand as it involves the Royal Family and doesn't show the King in a very good light. Thailand has very strict lèse-majesté laws for present and previous members of the Royal Family. Also, the Thai people in the book and musical are portrayed as childlike people, which would obviously be upsetting and degrading but on the other hand she did teach children.
