The revolutionary folk song about Stepan Razin "The Cliff on the Volga River" ("The Cliff", "Utyos") performed by Arthur Eizen (bass) and the Alexandrov Red Army Choir (with English Subtitles).

This is a clip from the TV show "Blue Light #194" as of 7th of November, 1966. The Central Television of the USSR.

This song is about the fate of the 17th century Russian rebel, Stepan Razin. The lyrics were written in 1864 by novelist A.Navrotsky who was also a member of Narodnaya Volya (Russian: Народная Воля), a secret revolutionary organization perhaps best known for assassinating Tsar Alexander II on March 13, 1881. The song was an anthem for revolutionaries of the late 19th and early 20th century in Russia.

INTERESTING FACTS:
- Arthur Eizen left The Red Army Choir in 1957. Here he performs already as a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre.
- This is the only record of Arthur Eizen performing this song.
- The performance of the song was recorded with one shot - no cuts.

Only he was able to get to the top
And the cliff didn't forget this man
And from then on it was called by the mans name.

A lot of thoughts were born in his head.
He thought of many things that night.
And under the sound of the waves,
In the midst of the silent night
He planned a great thing...

And that cliff is still there and it still keeps
All the cherished thoughts of Stepan (Razin)
And along with only the Volga river it remembers sometimes
The glorious living of the rebel leader
