What is a CSO?

CSO stands for combined sewer overflow. Old sewers in many cities carry a combination of sewage and stormwater, so a CSO is a relief point that prevents flooding in homes and treatment plants by discharging the combined flow (mostly stormwater) to the environment during heavy rains.
