Highlights of the Iceland Ring Road (North) - Dettifoss, Myvatn, Akureyri and Whales!

This is one of Europe's greatest drives, passing thundering waterfalls, steaming vents, bubbling pools and brooding mountains. This film takes you from Egilstadir in the east to Reykjavik with a short detour to Snæfellsnes. On the way you'll see Dettifoss, Krafla, Myvatn, Godafoss, Husavik, Akureyri, Borgarnes, Borg a Myrum, and Stykkisholmur. Watch out too for a close encounter with pilot whales!

Which is the best part of the Ring Road? On the northern section Egilstadir to Akureyri, no contest.

Is September a good time to drive the ring road? The weather in Iceland is incredibly variable. We had some rain and fog but most of the time we had sunshine. In fact we enjoyed some of the warmest days of the whole summer according to the locals. Whilst there were a lot of tourists at Myvatn and Dettifoss the road was never congested.
