An allergy is not a disease in itself, but the cause of several diseases at the same time; diseases such as allergic asthma. So, asthma is triggered by a failure of our immune system. Genetic factors, pollution and the environment, as well as an increasingly less active immune system are some causes why allergies are becoming a public health problem, mainly in developed countries.

Asthma can become disabling for the patient. The main objective for Charité Berlin is to detect and follow the evolution of the disease, so that the patient has a good quality of life, without limitations in their daily activities and with no symptoms. Although it is a disease that cannot be cured, with a proper diagnosis and treatment, added to the patient's education on how to manage it, it can be kept under control.
