i24NEWS DESK | As ballot boxes shutter for Israel's second election of 2019, initial exit polls show that the country's two biggest parties will likely come up short in forming a coalition government in the next Knesset (Israeli Parliament).

According to Hebrew-broadcaster Channel 13, initial exit polls show Blue & White at 33 mandates, leading Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party at 31.   

The development potentially spells doom for Netanyahu, who faces a myriad of legal problems that could see him relinquish his crown as Israel's longest serving premier.

The initial estimates also show that the predominantly Arab Joint List, led by Ayman Odeh, will be Israel's third largest party in the Knesset at 13 seats.

The Yisrael Beiteinu party, headed by Netanyahu's political nemesis Avigdor Liberman, along with the Orthodox Shas and United Torah Judaism parties, each received eight mandates, respectively.

In a disappointing performance, the Yamina right-wing political alliance only received six seats, matching their left-wing counterpart, the Democratic Union. The historic Labor-party, which partnered with the centrist Gesher party before September's election, also received six seats.

In a sigh of relief to many liberal-minded Israelis, the controversial far-right Otzma Yehudi (Jewish Power) party, infamous for their racist statements against the country's Arab community, did not pass the electoral threshold.
