Georgia - Shevardnadze Inaugurated As President

Eduard Shevardnadze was sworn in as Georgia's president on Sunday (26/11), the first since 1992. Shevardnadze took the oath of office in front of more than 6,000 Georgians, with soldiers marching in salute. After the ceremony Shevardnadze travelled to the ancient Svetistskhoveli Cathedral outside Tbilisi for a blessing from Patriach Ilia II, the head of the Georgian Orthodox Church. Shevardnadze swore to serve the state
and to continue the country's progress toward full democracy.
