Nature Child - James Dewar (1988) FLAC

"Nature Child" was the closing track on James Dewar's single solo album, 1988's Stumbledown Romancer. Though the album was completed in the late 1970s at the height of his career, it was never released until 1998 (Chrysalis), and even then it only had a limited release and because of that it is an ultra rare CD.

The album featured a handful of originals by Dewar and Procol Harum's Matthew Fischer, but was mostly cover versions of songs by other artists. This beautiful song was one of Dewar and Fischer's originals.

I always loved James' vocal work with Robin Trower, where he was the lead singer on for a decade on some of the strongest rock albums of the seventies, starting with 1973's Twice Removed From Yesterday and running through 1983's Back It Up. He had an incredibly soulful and powerful voice.

I decided to do a couple/few of "equalizer" vids for select tracks from a favorite album as I've previously done for The Byrd's Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Eric Clapton's Backless and No Reason To Cry, Graham Parker's Heat Treatment, etc.) in this case for a wonderful, yet overlooked Stumbledown Romancer album by James Dewar. Choosing favorites from this album is hard because they're all so great....I decided to just do the opening and closing tracks. If you've enjoyed these two then I suggest you search out the other tracks as well....don't miss them! Thanks for watching!

Every single song on this album is excellent, man can this guy sing. It's a crying shame that he didn't do more solo work because clearly he was a vocalist of tremendous ability and his work would have almost certainly (with the proper support) gained him an audience of both old fans of this RTB work and new ones as well. Why didn't he get the opportunity to do more solo albums? I would really like to know. Hope the vids will give a few people who haven't heard these songs a chance to appreciate them.

Dewar made his mark as an acclaimed blue eyed soul singer, performing in front of sold-out stadiums and concert halls at the crest of the 1970s classic rock era. The Scot had a rich, powerful voice, with a soulful timbre, and has been regarded by critics as one of the most under-rated rock vocalists. His vocal sound was deep, gritty, and resonating, his style shows the influence of Ray Charles and Otis Redding. Like Paul Rodgers and Frankie Miller, his voice evoked a bluesy, soul-inspired sound.

At Dykebar Hospital in Paisley, Scotland, Dewar died in May 2002 of a stroke after years of disability resulting from a rare medical condition, CADASIL, which caused a series of strokes (JimmyDewar.com). His funeral was held at Paisley's Woodside Crematorium.

Anyone?
I'll close caption them if anyone has them or can take the time out to try and get them from listening.
