Suitland Redevelopment Could Make The Neighborhood Unrecognizable
Suitland is about to get one of the biggest glow-ups in Prince George’s County.
The center of it is Towne Square at Suitland Federal Center.
County plans describe more than 1 million square feet of mixed-use development.
That includes 895 residential units and attached homes, 98,000 square feet of retail, and a 50,000 square foot Performing Arts Center.
But this is bigger than just construction.
Maryland just approved the Suitland Development Authority, and the law says it must be self-sustaining by fiscal year 2036.
So now Suitland has a real deadline.
By fall 2026, the Suitland Water Tower is expected to get public art banners and lighting.
By spring 2027, creative crosswalks are planned.
By summer 2027, a gateway sign and community plaza are targeted.
The goal is obvious.
Pull more activity, retail, foot traffic, and energy into the Suitland Road and Silver Hill Road corridor.
But longtime residents are asking the right question.
Will this bring opportunity for the people already there, or will it become another example of change that prices people out?
Share this with someone who cares about PG County’s future.
