Can a mixed bag diy lithium ion power bank and cheap inverter run a small AC?

The biggest and baddest setup is awesome but most of us operate on a budget and we just want to make our system work reliably without spending the big bucks.
It is hard for diy equipment to run demanding inductive loads such as air conditioners where start up current can be 3 or 4 times the normal current draw. I decided to see if my mixed bag lithium ion power bank (12v 100Ah) and cheap sine wave inverter ($110) can run an air conditioner at all (If your power bank can run an air conditioner, it will have no problem running a refrigerator as an air conditioner can draw up to 3 to 5 times more current when the compressor is running).
The answer is yes but not for long. A total of 35 minutes on low cool in my garage. Conceivably, it'll run longer in a smaller room. Each time the compressor kicks on, the inverter display dims. While there is still enough voltage from the power bank, the inrush current makes it harder to start the compressor when battery power is lower.
The solution is some kind of soft start or current limiting device. Of course, a bigger power bank and more robust inverter will help.
Why diy and not simply buy an all in one unit? Consider this if you do so, most diy systems can be repaired by the maker whereas an all in one store bought unit can only be repaired by the manufacturer's authorized service centers. The more fancy features your purchased unit has, the more likely it will break down.
