Raptor ranger dual battery installation
Back in the garage with the next gen raptor ranger to sort out a 12v power installation with a dual battery installation. 12v arb elements fridge and fridge slide.

The first step of this project was to work out the how to mount the battery, being a dual cab Ute behind the back seat is a great option. We did have to relocate the jack to make this work. After finally getting the Offroad down under battery tray secured in position we realised you could quite easily do this install without it. The space is a little tight on the back seat and I think it could be done better.

The Renogy charger is really straight forward to wire. The most important thing is ensure you have adequate gauge cabling. We didn’t at the start and found we had heating in the wiring. After changing everything to massive 2 BNS wire our issues were gone. We did under estimate the amount of draw from the 50ah charger. Also the Renogy unit is quite large so we ended up installing it under the rear seat.

Getting power from inside the cab to out was actually relatively straight forward as there is a grommet in the back wall that can easily accommodate large wire. We ran the wiring down the passenger side of the tub and in to the back factory location where the 12v cig socket is. Damo had a plate cut and we removed the factory socket and mounted the Kick ass mini power box in its location. This is a seriously cool bit of gear having 4x USB A, 1x USB C, 3x cig, voltage indicator and a LED light. After pulling the factory panel apart you could definitely make your own panel with it if you wanted?

The Fridge and slide. This was a mission in its self. Trying to find the right combination of fridge and slide to maximise usable space was no small task. After days of research and measuring and rechecking clearances Damo settled on a Dunn & Watson fridge slide and ARB elements fridge.
The fridge slide is almost the length of the tray and just under half the width. He decided to go with this combination to be able to carry a small space case at the back of the slide and being able to access the fridge without lifting the hard cover. The installation was straight forward. Assemble the runners on the slide pack one side to sit level with the ridges in the tray and Tec screw it all in place.

Over all this project took us a little l0onger than I like to admit. Mainly because we underestimated the wiring and had to wait for gear to arrive. But over all its relatively straight forward and the Next Gen Raptor Ranger now has a dual battery system that always keeps the beer ice cold. And that is what it’s all about!
