Meningiomas | Lenox Hill Neurosurgery

This video is meant to give you additional information about your new diagnosis of meningioma.
Meningiomas are generally benign tumors that arise for the covering of the brain and spinal cord.
Meningiomas may cause neurological symptoms due to compression or irritation of the underlying brain or spinal cord tissue. Limb weakness, seizure, sensory changes, and trouble with walking are some of the most common symptoms.
Small meningiomas that are discovered incidentally are usually observed with periodic brain MRIs. Large meningiomas or those causing neurological symptoms will require treatment.
Treamtment options include
-Surgery to remove the tumor
-Embolization, to occlude blood supply to the tumor
-or Gamma Knife radiosurgery to stop the tumor cells from dividing
