Parliament & Kashmir🔥Rights Debate and Nitish Kumar Controversy

MP Engineer Rashid Calls for Revocation of PSA, UAPA Reforms in Parliament; Uproar Across Kashmir Over Nitish Kumar Row

New Delhi / Srinagar:
Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, on Tuesday strongly urged the Government of India to revoke the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Jammu and Kashmir and introduce amendments to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), stating that laws should not become instruments that undermine civil liberties and democratic rights.

Speaking during the Parliament Winter Session, Engineer Rashid said that prolonged detentions without trial have caused immense suffering in Jammu and Kashmir and stressed that liberty, justice, and constitutional safeguards must be protected. He called upon Parliament to review stringent laws and ensure that democratic dissent is not criminalized.

Rashid’s remarks drew attention on social media, with videos of his speech going viral under hashtags related to PSA, UAPA, and Jammu and Kashmir. Supporters described his intervention as a strong voice for human rights, while the issue reignited debate on legal reforms in the region.

Meanwhile, political outrage has erupted across Kashmir after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was accused of ‘indecent conduct’ during a public function, following the circulation of a controversial video. Several political leaders and social organizations from Jammu and Kashmir condemned the incident, calling it insensitive, disrespectful, and unbecoming of a constitutional authority.

Senior leaders, including those from regional parties, demanded a public apology from the Bihar Chief Minister and asserted that such behavior reflects a lack of respect towards Muslim women. Some leaders went further, questioning Nitish Kumar’s moral authority to continue as Chief Minister.

The twin developments — Engineer Rashid’s demand for legal reforms in Parliament and the widespread condemnation of Nitish Kumar — have dominated political discourse in Kashmir, with leaders emphasizing dignity, justice, and accountability as core democratic values.

As debates continue both inside Parliament and on the streets of Kashmir, the issues have once again highlighted concerns related to civil rights, governance, and respect for constitutional principles.
