اليوم صناعة النفط والغاز العالمية تواجه تحدي بيئي كبير ذو طابع جيوسياسي وحملات اعلامية تطالب بنهاية عصر النفط الذهبي وربطه الغير منصف بظاهرة التغير المناخي. فهل ستنجح صناعة النفط والغاز العالمية التي تساهم في 53% من خليط الطاقة العالمي وتستخدم في دعم الاقتصاد العالمي وتحسين مستوى معيشة الإنسان على وجه الأرض وخفض مؤشر فقر الطاقة العالمي التحول الى صناعة منخفضة الانبعاثات للاستمرار كمصدرين رئيسين للطاقة على المدى البعيد؟ وماذا تستطيع جمعية مهندسي البترول العالمية اليوم لمساعدة هذه الصناعة للحد من هذا التحدي للوصول إلى القريب من الصفر من الانبعاثات الغازية الضارة بحلول عام 2050.

Today, the global oil and gas industry is facing a major environmental challenge, influenced by geopolitics and media calling for the end of the golden age of oil and its unfair link to the phenomenon of climate change. Will the global oil and gas industry, which contributes 53% of the global energy mix and is used to support the global economy, improve the standard of human living and reduce the global energy poverty index, succeed in shifting to a low-emissions industry to continue as the energy source of choice in the long term? And how can the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE) today help the industry to address this challenge to reach the ultimate goal of near zero net emissions by 2050!! Dr Alnuaim has more than 30 years of rounded experience in the global Oil & Gas industry & academia. He was selected to be the 2019 President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International, the largest not-for-profit professional society supporting the Oil & Gas Industry. His vision of the Oil & Gas industry is to continue having positive impact on global economy, enhancing human lifestyle, enriching global social sustainable development, reducing global energy poverty and significantly protecting the environment towards near-zero-net emission by 2050.
