How NOT To Install A Chinese Diesel Air Heater in an Off Grid Cabin!
Well, installing the Chinese diesel air heater and attaching it to the back of my off grid cabin sounded like a good idea. But it turned out, it was one of those things that looked better on paper than in real life.
Here is the Chinese Diesel Air Heater I bought on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3tfIzOf
In this video on how to install a Chinese diesel air heater at an off grid cabin, I'm going to show you how NOT to do it. I was so disappointed with the outcome.
I'm also a little disappointed in the performance of the diesel air heater itself. But that is more my fault than the heaters. I kept hearing how these things "sipped fuel". I guess my definition of "sipping fuel" is different from other people's!
The biggest problem I had with mounting the diesel heater on the cabin is the noise it creates. That's why I didn't want the diesel air heater inside the cabin! But with the pump and heater attached to the off grid cabin, it was like the inside of the cabin was an amplifier! I could hear the pump "thumping" away all night.
My second mistake with the diesel air heater was setting the lcd control to the temp I wanted to keep the cabin. I set it just like you would set the thermostat in your home. The little diesel heater would surge trying to warm the space up and once it went above the temperature I had it set at, it would crank back down. Then when the temperature fell, it would surge again! The blower would really pick up speed and the pump would tick away crazily. This made for a very long and sleepless night at my off grid cabin!
Finally, I discovered that if I set a constant pulse rate for the diesel heater's pump, that I could get consistent heated air without the crazy surging!
So if you're planning on installing a Chinese diesel air heater in an off grid cabin, I would suggest you rethink that decision. My little cabin is 210 square feet. On days when the temperature is below 35, the heater will have to work very hard to keep a comfortable temperature inside the cabin. And it will use quite a bit of diesel fuel doing it!
