KABC ABC7 Eyewitness News at 3:00 Open, 5/21/2024 (New Graphics)

Open for the 3pm newscast from the ABC-owned station in Los Angeles, California. Recorded Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Today during car chase coverage during the 10am hour, and officially on the midday news, KABC became the last station to launch ABC's new O&O group standardized graphics package.

For a station that took so long to launch, personally I am disappointed. They dropped their excellent 2013-era cuts of Eyewitness News from Gari Music for the 1999-era cuts WABC uses, which do not fit LA or its vibe at all. They also cut new voiceovers with Charlie Van Dyke and his voice has significantly decayed here. As much of a legend as he is in the VO world, it's time for someone new. They use Drew Patterson and Virginia Hamilton in promos, and both would've been a marked improvement here. The graphics themselves otherwise don't look much different than the other stations except WPVI which did their own thing.
