Car Won't Turn On But Has Power (Causes And Solutions)

Car Won't Turn On But Has Power (Causes And Solutions). In this video tutorial I will show you how to fix car that won't turn on but has power.

Here are the common causes of the issue;
● A Bad battery
● A Faulty alternator
● A defective starter
● Security system faults
● Switch ignition issues

Here are the solutions to try:
Check the battery
If you notice things like no sound when you turn the key, a sluggish engine cranking, or your car turning on only when you jump-start it, then you may have a bad battery. To troubleshoot:
● First, inspect your battery connections. Ensure all connections are well secured and clean any corrosion in the terminals.
● You will also need to measure your battery's voltage. A fully charged battery will have a voltage above 12.4V. If it is below, the battery may need to be recharged or replaced, as it may not have enough power to start your car. It is a good idea to perform a load test on your battery rather than simply testing the voltage, as it is more accurate.

Inspect the alternator
Your car stalling shortly after starting, dimming lights, and check engine or battery indicator lights on your dashboard are symptoms of a failing alternator. Use a multimeter to check the alternator voltage output while the engine runs. Connect the multimeter's positive and negative leads to the battery's respective terminals. If your alternator is good, you should get a reading of between 13.5V and 14.7V.

Inspect the starter
The starter's function is to get your engine moving. If faulty, your car may have power, but you cannot start your engine. If you try to start your car but only hear some clicking noise, but it won't start, the issue could be with the starter.

Look into security system faults.
The security features in your car are there to keep your car safe, but sometimes, they can be why you cannot start your car. For example, if you notice your car won't turn on and there is a key icon on the dashboard, the immobilizer system is preventing your car from starting since it does not recognize the key. This lack of recognition can be caused by:
● The key fob is running low on battery.
● Obstructions.
● A damaged key fob.
To troubleshoot this, remove all obstructions, like attachments to the ignition or key fob, and then use a different key.

Check for switch ignition issues.
Another culprit for your car not turning on might be switch ignition issues. Worn-out ignition switch contacts, temperature issues, or broken springs can cause these issues.

Seek professional help
If you have already performed all these troubleshooting steps without success, it is time to seek help from a professional mechanic.
