Berengaria of Navarre Forgotten Historical Figure

Berengaria of Navarre was the Queen consort of England as King Richard I of England's wife, also known as Richard the Lionheart. She was the daughter of King Sancho VI of Navarre and his wife, Queen Sancha of Castile. During the Third Crusade, Berengaria and Richard were married in Cyprus in 1191.

She is the only queen consort of England who never set foot in England, as the couple lived in various parts of France and the Holy Land during their marriage.

After Richard died in 1199, Berengaria retired to a convent in Le Mans, where she lived the rest of her life. She is not known to have had any children. Berengaria is remembered for her role in the Third Crusade and her marriage to Richard the Lionheart, but much of her life remains a mystery.
