DC officer dies after being struck while helping driver on I-695

An MPD officer has died from injuries suffered after being struck by a vehicle while helping a stranded motorist on I-695.

Officer Terry Bennett was an eight-year veteran of the department.

According to MPD, Officer Bennett was struck by a vehicle while assisting a stranded motorist who ran out of gas on I-695 around 10:10 p.m. on Dec. 23, 2025. Officials said he was standing outside his cruiser when another driver, who police said was speeding, hit him.
