10 Portfolio Tips for Illustrators | Making Friends No. 26

In this episode, I explain why I usually pass on requests to review portfolios. That being said, there are a number of things I can tell you about your portfolio without even looking at it.

I'll take you point-by-point through these ten tips:

1. Show context.
2. Show quality.
3. Briefly explain your work.
4. Assume no one cares about you — they care about your credentials .
5. Make it easy to get in touch with you.
6. Curate.
7. Keep it about the work.
8. Think near/far.
9. Have a good bio shot.
10. Show only the kind of work you want to be doing.
What do you think of these tips? What makes a good portfolio in your opinion? Share your thoughts or examples of your favourite portfolios in the comments.
