Uncle Dave Macon & Dorris - Bill Bailey, Won't You Please Come Home (November 6, 1948)
In a rare off-air home recording of the WSM Grand Ole Opry from November 6, 1948, Roy Acuff introduces the "Squire of Readyville", Uncle Dave Macon and his son, Dorris, who perform their version of the 1902 jazz standard "Bill Bailey, Won't You Please Come Home". In this performance, one month after his 78th birthday, Uncle Dave demonstrates the energy and vibrancy still present in the live performances of his final years. Although Uncle Dave Macon left one of the largest catalogues of commercial recordings of any pre-WWII hillbilly artist, his regular performing repertoire contained hundreds more songs that he did not record commercially, and "Bill Bailey" is one of these songs never otherwise committed to disc by Uncle Dave.
