Excavation work inside Tunnel-14 of the ambitious Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Rail Project is progressing rapidly as engineers continue controlled blasting operations in the Himalayan terrain. Officials at the site said advanced automated drilling machines are being used for face drilling before explosives are loaded for excavation. Engineers revealed that the tunnel geology changes every few metres, ranging from loose to hard rock, making the work highly challenging.

Safety measures including sirens, ventilation systems, stress-monitoring targets and certified blasting teams are being deployed to ensure zero casualties. Tunnel supervisors said water seepage inside the tunnel will be sealed completely during lining work using waterproof geo-textile membranes. Authorities expect Tunnel-14 breakthrough work to be completed by July or August as construction advances steadily.
