Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar, located in Argul, Khordha, Odisha – 752050, has released its official Ph.D. Admission 2026-27 Round-the-Year Notification, offering a unique opportunity for candidates to apply throughout the year. The institute accepts online applications under multiple categories including Institute Ph.D. Scholars, Sponsored Scholars, Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., Institute Staff, and Working Professionals. The admission process is conducted in four windows: Window-1 (1st February to 30th April), Window-2 (1st May to 31st July), Window-3 (1st August to 31st October), and Window-4 (1st November to 31st January), with respective last dates being the final day of each window.

Talking about eligibility, candidates applying for engineering disciplines must have M.Tech/ME with at least 60% marks or B.Tech/BE with 70% marks along with a valid GATE score. For science and interdisciplinary subjects, candidates should have a Master’s degree with minimum 60% marks and qualifications like GATE/CSIR-UGC NET/JAM/JEST. Humanities and social sciences candidates require a minimum of 55% marks along with NET or GATE qualification. Sponsored and working professional candidates may be exempted from GATE/NET depending on category, but must fulfill academic qualifications.

The application process is completely online, where candidates need to fill the form carefully and upload scanned copies of original documents. No hard copy submission is required. Shortlisting is based on academic performance and eligibility, followed by a selection process which may include a written test and/or interview depending on the department. Final selection is based on performance in interview and test (if applicable).

IIT Bhubaneswar offers Ph.D. programs across multiple schools including School of Electrical & Computer Sciences, Infrastructure (Civil Engineering), Mechanical Sciences, Minerals Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Basic Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biosciences), and Earth, Ocean & Climate Sciences. Additionally, interdisciplinary research is also available in Artificial Intelligence and High Performance Computing (AHRC). Regarding fees, the application fee is ₹500 for General/EWS/OBC candidates, ₹250 for SC/ST/PwD candidates, USD 50 for foreign nationals, while female candidates are exempted from paying the fee. The fee is non-refundable.
