Ben Builds - The HLI VJ/VE GB - Fiat G.55 ep. 3
Happy Friday, everyone and welcome back to the 1/48th scale Fiat G.55! In case you are new here, I am building this kit for the 75th Anniversary of VJ/VE Day Group Build, being hosted by Hobby Link International (HLI).
Today, I wanted to continue the work on the cockpit, adding in some P.E. parts and starting the painting process. I also wanted to get the seat belts built up and get the instrument panel and seat installed.
I decided to go with the paint call outs as listed in the instructions, so I picked up Mr. Color C312 Pale Green for the main interior color. I also used Tamiya Flat Black and Vallejo Aluminium for the dials and other details.
After a nice coating of Future, to seal the paint, I worked on the seat and used Vallejo Aluminium, Tamiya Buff and Tamiya Red Brown for the buckles, seat backing and leather belts. Once the Future was dry, I washed it all down with a black Tamiya Panel Line Accent, applied a very light, quick shot of Tamiya Buff to dust it up and sealed it all with a Matte Varnish.
I installed some foot straps and tie downs in the cockpit, installed the P.E. instrument panels with film backing and glued it all into the right side of the fuselage. The fit of these parts weren't the best, but eventually I got it all to line up. The end product isn't perfect, but it works for me. Honestly, things are so tight in there, most details will be lost when the fuselage is closed up.
On our next episode, I think I'm going to close up the fuselage and get the wings fixed up and maybe installed. We'll see where inspiration takes us.
