Coronavirus: Ford calls for more funding from Ottawa to assist in long-term care improvements | FULL

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Ottawa has been great partners but they need more funding. These types of facilities were hardest hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the military being dispatched to help in some instances.

Ford said they have been acting on a study in July which recommended how to handle staffing in homes, stressing the province would have a "much, much better" long-term care system "this province has ever seen" with the work they're doing.

He made the comments during a COVID-19 briefing alongside Health Minister Christine Elliott and Children, Community and Social Services Minister Todd Smith.

The premier also responded to criticism by chef and restauranteur Mark McEwan who criticized the 28-day modified Stage 2 restrictions are hurting restaurants, saying they are focused on health and the numbers do not show reopening is the right thing to do right now. He added they need to balance health and the economy, but they would not have the latter if they just allow COVID-19 to spread.

Ford said he would not get his flu shot until he knows "every single person in this province, every senior" has received theirs. The comments came as questions continued to be raised about when people in some regions would be able to get a flu shot amid reports some people have been unable to get theirs at places like pharmacies despite a government push to do so.

Ontario reported 826 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, bringing the provincial total to 68,353. There were also nine more deaths, increasing the death toll to 3,080.
