Global National: Nov. 3, 2023 | Israel pushes back against calls for humanitarian pause in Gaza

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday renewed calls for a humanitarian pause to allow for aid to enter Gaza and for people to get out of the besieged enclave, as Israel’s offensive continues.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, has pushed back against those calls for a pause in fighting, even as the U.S., has joined the chorus of international voices calling for one. Mike Armstrong reports on the shifting U.S. strategy and the real-life consequences of Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Both Israeli and Palestinian families have been ripped apart by this conflict. Daniele Hamamdjian has the story of two fathers and their heartbreak in being separated from their families.

The Canadian government says the more than 500 Canadians in Gaza will be able to leave as early as Sunday. The news comes after weeks of uncertainty and desperation for families in the besieged enclave. Neetu Garcha reports.
In Ottawa, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland met with her provincial and territorial counterparts to discuss Alberta’s plan to exit from the Canada Pension Plan (CPP).

Freeland once again warned about the potential consequences and complications if Alberta follows through with the proposal. And as Mackenzie Gray reports, the federal government is seeking more clarity over how much money the province is entitled to.
