Dr. Joe DeMarco, chiropractor and owner of OcraMed Health, discusses how to fix chronic hip and piriformis pain.
The piriformis muscle is one of the external rotators of the hip.
It commonly becomes very tight and causes pain in the hip area.
This type of problem can go on for months and months. I have even seen cases of chronic piriformis pain lasting for years.
No matter how much you stretch and roll the muscles, you can only seem to get temporary relief. Why is that?
Dr. Joe explains why this happens and how to fix it. Often times the opposing muscle group (in this case, the internal hip rotators) can become chronically tight. This leads to a great deal of stress on muscles such as the piriformis (external rotator). This continuous stress on the piriformis leads to chronic piriformis and hip pain.
Dr. Joe demonstrates in this video how to perform fascial release work and stretches on some of your internal hip rotator muscles.
Releasing the tension in these internal rotators will often times greatly reduce your chronic piriformis and hip pain..
